What’s Going on in the World of Shiplap and Shells

Did you miss me last week? I had every intention of sending out a weekly recap, but something crazy happened to me.

I stepped away from the blog and social media, and just relaxed with my husband and the pups. It wasn’t planned. It just felt right. We didn’t do ANYTHING but relax. It was so nice.

1. HAPPY NEW YEAR! It took long enough to get through 2020, didn’t it?

Our New Year’s Eve was uneventful. But it sounds like there were some fun people out there that really put some effort into making their evening at home special.

And now… wait for it… I want a fondue set. I loved that there were so many people who made fondue for New Year’s Eve. Thanks for the inspiration…you know who you are!

2. Speaking of the new year, have you chosen your word of the year for 2021? I haven’t. It’s a process you know. But I did run across a post with some helpful tips. I’d love to hear what your word is if you have already chosen one.

3. I tried to make up for the lack of blog posts written last week. I shared my top 10 blog posts of 2020.

The Year in Review was fun for me to write this week. I was so proud of the things that I accomplished this past year, including a Cottage Style Magazine shoot, a Cottages and Bungalows Magazine feature, a Country Home Magazine weekend takeover on Instagram and a TV show. Pretty exciting stuff!

4. The big question going around on Instagram is “Have you taken your Christmas decor down yet”? If I had my way, I would have my holiday decorations taken down and transitioned to winter by now. But there’s this puppy named Ollie that’s living with us now. And I will continue to enjoy the holiday decorations until…well I’m just not sure yet.

When do puppies get easier, and let you do things without crying and making you feel guilty?

I do know how I want to to transition to winter though, and can’t wait to write a blog post about it. Fingers crossed it will be before Valentine’s Day ( cue the laughter).

5. Speaking of transitioning from Christmas to winter decor, I have some fabulous finds from the Hearth & Hand spring collection found at Target.

What I’m Working on for Next Week:

I’ve just written my first of many posts in my garden blog series, where I’ll share the different tips and tricks when starting a fresh cut flower garden. I’m buying my seeds from Floret Flower Farm on January 5th, and shared the flower seeds that I will grow in my garden this year. What would you like to see in my garden series?

If you haven’t already, I’d love for you to join my Facebook garden group! It’s for all levels of gardeners: Those that are just starting out, gardeners that can hold their own or have a pretty green thumb, and of course, those that are either Master Gardeners, or should be! If you do request to join, please make sure you fill out the questions that I’ve asked.

I’ll be starting another blog series this month with many great “before and after” pics and the renovation projects we’ve worked at our 1920 beach cottage for the last 8 years.

Not that my husband wasn’t working but, when Christmas eve arrived I just knew that I needed a break so I stepped away from social media and the blog and just relaxed. It was so good. So often, we don’t take time for ourselves. Thank you for sharing this. It was a great read.
