A Simply Soothing Summer Sanctuary – My Cozy Cottage Bedroom Tour
Do you decorate your bedroom every season? Come take a tour of my cottage bedroom and see how easy it is to decorate for summer and find out a little more about my summer sanctuary.
Are you one of those people that decorates your bedroom for every season?
I am. No one ever really sees it except for my husband and anyone who follows along on the blog or social media.
But it makes me happy. And that’s all that counts, right?
About My Bedroom
For those of you that can’t remember ever seeing my bedroom, here it is. It has been a while since I’ve shared it.
I think that’s because it is such a small room and VERY hard to get good shots. There’s also a lighting issue. It’s very dark on one side and really light on the other with the sun shining through the window.
So let’s just say that there is a lot of editing going on here.

Our cottage bedroom looks much bigger in this picture than it really is in real life.
How We Added Storage to Our Cottage Bedroom
We have room for a king-sized bed (which is a must for us to get any sleep), 2 nightstands, and a chair or table in the little alcove.
Because there is no room for a dresser we created 2 built-ins to give us our much-needed storage space.
Here’s the first one (above) that was built into the original closet.
This built-in is an antique that was built at the same time as our house was in 1920.

Our Faux Fireplace Mantel Surround
My husband made this faux fireplace mantel surround so I would have more space to display home decor and flowers.

Adding Touches of Summer to Our Cottage Bedroom
Seashells are a great way to bring in the summer season.
You can put them in a bowl, jars, dough bowls… there are so many ways to show them off.
I always love adding vintage books to any vignette no matter what the season. They are the perfect decor item to add height and interest.
How pretty is this pitcher? I love the color and its uniqueness. CLICK HERE to shop for one of your own. It looks like the pitcher is back-ordered until August 20th.
Here is some of the summer decor that I used for our cottage bedroom.
- vintage wooden oar
- faux hydrangeas
- seashells
My cut flower garden is not quite up to speed and I’m still waiting for those fresh flower blooms.
In the meantime, I am using faux flowers which look pretty amazing these days.
Changing your bedding to a lighter fabric is a must for summer. It’s a little hard to see here because of the lighting issues but the shams in the back were replaced with white cotton.
All back pillows and the quilt are from Hallstrom Home. The front bolster is from Target.
I hope you liked touring my summer cottage bedroom and found an inspired idea or two along the way. I’d love to hear from you, please leave a comment below to tell me what your favorite thing about my bedroom is.
Until next time,
Happy Summer!
