Are you scratching your head, trying to decide what to do with your home decor now that we’re into the winter season? Here are some simple winter decor ideas that will brighten up your mood after the holidays are over.

It may be gloomy and cold outdoors, at least where I live. The days here in the Seattle area are filled a lot of rain right now. I’m not able to spend time in the garden or even outdoors as much as I want, so it’s important to create a home full of warmth and coziness.

What is Winter Decor

Winter decor is simple.

When you think of your home being a much-needed sanctuary in the winter months, words such as warmth, cozy, welcoming, and inviting come to mind. By using touches of greenery, outdoor elements, and warm textures you can create the perfect indoor retreat.

When decorating for winter, I like to keep things neutral and pull in a lot of natural elements for texture.

Here are some winter decor ideas to help inspire you and put you in a good mood despite the weather outdoors.

Say Goodbye to Christmas But Don’t Pack Up Everything

To keep from getting overwhelmed, I take down my holiday decorations in phases, which makes it even easier to transition from Christmas to winter.

It’s so easy to take down your true Christmas decor while leaving any winter elements displayed. “Naked” Christmas trees, garlands, branches, and pinecones are some of the decor you can keep for the winter season.

I do try to remove any red berries that may be on any greenery leftover from Christmas.

Add Touches of Greenery and Other Natural Elements

Touches of greenery are where most of my color comes from when transitioning from Christmas to winter decor.

I’ve swapped my Christmas tree for an olive tree in this corner of the living room.

I’ll slowly start replacing the bare mini Christmas trees with dried eucalyptus, ferns, and fresh rosemary from the garden in a few weeks when I start transitioning to Valentine’s Day.

Outdoor Decor Inspired by Snow

Snowshoes, sleds, and ice skates were already displayed around the house for Christmas. By removing items like the red plaid scarves, bells, and ribbon, I was able to give my snow-inspired decor a fresh new look for winter.

Textures Add Warmth and Interest to Winter

Add cozy textures such as throws, pillows, and comfy blankets.

Baskets, shutters, and wood accessories will also add texture to your space as well.

Comfy cable knit throws, wool area rugs, velvet, and sheepskin are all cozy textures that will definitely make a statement this winter.

Mercury Glass and Silver

Mercury glass candle holders and vases that were displayed during the holidays still look just as amazing. Silver is another great addition to your winter decor. I’m adding silver trays and pitchers to the mix as well.

Fire and Candlelight

You can never have too many candles in the winter. They are magical and add so much warmth to a room.

Add a mirror to a room to reflect the light from the candles or fireplace for an even more beautiful look.

Decorate Your Fireplace Mantel

Decorating your fireplace mantel is so easy in the winter.

I removed the dried oranges and ornaments from the mantel from Christmas and left the greenery, candles, and pinecones.

The vintage books are a great replacement for the Christmas decor that filled this space earlier.

Create a Simple Winter Centerpiece

Keep your winter centerpiece simple. You can create a focal point on your table just by adding some greenery and a candle.

Incorporate greenery either by displaying a mini tree, adding pinecones and greenery to a dough bowl, or adding outdoor branches or faux plants to a pitcher.

Winter Kitchen Decor – Neutrals with a Pop of Color

I chose to add greens and whites to my neutral kitchen this year.

A lot of the greenery was left from the Christmas decor. I switched out any red and Santa decor for silver and more greens.
