Saltwater Sounds Weekly Wrap-Up
Welcome to Saltwater Sounds, a collection of ideas, tips, and inspiration. This is where I share all that’s been happening in the world of Shiplap and Shells, what’s to come and the inspiration I have found from other bloggers around the web.
This and That…
Wishing you all a happy and safe Sunday.
And for those of you who are experiencing your fair share of snow and ice, I hope you’re able to stay warm and cozy inside.
It should be a nice and dry day today so I’m looking forward to spending it outdoors in the garden.
It was a busy week but also a lot of fun.
- There was a day trip to Oregon with a friend.
- I’ve been in the greenhouse sowing seeds and starting geranium plants from cuttings.
- The tile went up in the boat.
- I created a little coffee bar in my kitchen.
- Forsythia branches were cut to force bloom in the house.

An Oregon Day Trip
I spent the day in Willamette Valley, Oregon with a friend. Besides seeing these olive trees at the nursery, you can see everything else we did that day HERE.
Boat Renovation Update
We are now finished with the tile work.
Some people have asked if the tile is safe for a boat. I learned that we needed to use a waterproof tile adhesive to set the tile and not the traditional thin-set.
Using a latex grout will help with flexibility.
Setting Up a Coffee Bar
We have the quirkiest home. It was built in 1920 and doesn’t have much space.
The pantry is just to the left of this space so we thought we could get away with setting up the espresso maker here to give us more space on the kitchen counter.
Bringing in the Forsythia Branches
It’s that time again when I go out in the yard and cut forsythia branches to take in the house to force bloom. They should be blooming soon.
Here are forsythias from my friend’s house. She forced hers a few weeks ago.
Garden Inspiration for the Week
The picture above was taken the first week of September of 2020 and is one of the most shared and liked pictures of my garden.
For this week’s inspirational garden post, I chose An Enchanted Evening Stroll Through the Garden which was posted in September of 2020. It was the most beautiful summer evening and the sunset skies were even more dramatic due to the fires in California that year.
If you do go and check out this post, let me know in the comments what your favorite picture was.

Kim….your home is just so fabulous…..I love to look at your posts!!!!
The boat looks good kim its really coming along!!! Great inspo this week and thank you for sharing my home decorating trends post! xoxoo
It’s so much fun following along with your boat renovation adventures! I love all the pictures of your garden and seeing your friends forced forsythia branches makes me want to try it as well. The pop of yellow is so cheery! Loved all the Valentine’s Day and trend posts you shared as well. It was super sweet for you to include my DIY gift ideas as well. February is always such a fun month and I can’t wait to follow along on all your adventures! Sending you lots of hugs and thank yous, CoCo
Kim, your coffee station turned out absolutely beautiful! I think my favorite, after the garden for me in a home is a coffee station. Your home is the coziest ever.
Obsessing a bit over this week’s wrap-up. I just HAVE to say something about three of the photos. I Love your table vignette with the gorgeous flowers. It’s wonderful how you angled the photo not to just show-off the flowers, but to catch the chandelier in the mirror reflection – perfection! Your coffee bar, want to walk straight into the picture and help myself – deliciously inviting! (okay, almost done) The photo of your cut-back “winter garden”…. I can just picture Mary, Dickon and Colin working in their secret garden as the first spouts and greenery are coming back to life. I can smell the fresh, damp Spring soil…
Thank you for giving me a happy face!
You are just so sweet to reach out and share these kind words, Beth. You put a smile on my face as well. I appreciate you visiting the blog and I am wishing you the best week ahead. Hugs.
Kim,
You’ve had a very busy week. That’s for joining in our roundup and sharing my pillow cover again.
.
Your boat is looking so good and I love your coffee bar.
Thank you, Rachel. Looks like we are both working on projects. Your beach cottage is looking amazing.
Thanks for sharing my ice candle holders Kim. Love your new cozy coffee bar and forsythia branches. Happy Sunday?
Thank you, Ann. I can’t wait to try your candle holder. It is just the best idea.
So much eye candy in one space! I had no idea you could force Forsythia like that! Spring will be here before we know it!
It’s my favorite thing to do Kim. It feels like spring in the house when I force bloom branches. I hope you try it.
