Saltwater Sounds Weekly Wrap-Up
Welcome to Saltwater Sounds, a collection of ideas, tips, and inspiration. This is where I share all that’s been happening in the world of Shiplap and Shells, what’s to come and the inspiration I have found from other bloggers around the web.
This and That…
Happy Sunday from a very, VERY warm and sunny Palm Springs where we celebrated my bestie’s birthday.

Let’s just say that hanging out at the pool all day is PRETTY AMAZING! We’re here in the 80°F weather for another day and it has felt so good to relax and have some girl time.
Here are some other pics of the house we’re staying in.
I spent a couple of days at my friend Mary of Life at Bella Terra‘s house. I’m planning a writing a blog post and show you her gorgeous property and historical estate.
Mary is the best hostess. Here she is picking some oranges off her tree to make us freshly-squeezed orange juice.
I can’t wait to show you more next week. By the way, the gorgeous hollyhock at the beginning of the blog post is from Mary’s garden.
In the Greenhouse
Nothing new to report but things are growing and looking good. I’ll be hardening off my sweet peas and geraniums when I get back next week.
A Walk in the Garden
The daffodils are blooming throughout the garden.
My hyacinths are on their way out and the tulips are starting to bloom. I’ll share more in a garden tour post next week.
Monrovia Gardening Giveaway
For those of you that haven’t seen my Instagram post, I am joining Monrovia for a $100 e-gift card.
All you have to do is comment (on Instagram) on which of the 10 gorgeous hydrangeas you like best from their Seaside Serenade® Hydrangea collection.
What’s Happening at Shiplap and Shells…
I took some time off of the blog this week to get ready for my trip down south. But not to worry. I’ve been taking some amazing pictures and can’t wait to show you everything next week.
Here are some blog posts I shared this time last year that you might have missed.
How to Divide Dahlia Tubers in the Spring
Did you know that dividing your dahlia tubers every year has many benefits? I’ll show you my process for dividing and explain the advantages of splitting these dahlia root clumps annually.
How to Know When It’s Safe to Cut Back Spring Bulb Flowers and Their Leaves
Do you ever get frustrated by all the dead leaves your spring bulbs leave behind? Resist the strong urge to cut back spent foliage because there are benefits to leaving them alone. Here’s more about when it’s safe to cut back spring bulb flowers and leaves.

Since I’m taking the weekend off (kinda) I won’t be sharing my usual incredible inspiration from other bloggers this week but I’ll have some great posts for you to see next week.
I thought it would be fun for you to see what I was sharing last year on my Saltwater Sounds.

What beautiful hollyhocks, love those. Did you enjoy the Bougainvillea in the desert? I always love those. We had a small winter home in LaQuinta for many years. Every year we went to Palm Springs a few times. There is a little diner called Tylers that allows dogs, so we had to take the dog kiddos every year for a slider. Many happy memories from those years and the flowers were always so wonderful.
Hi Jillian, we didn’t even go out once because the house we stayed at was so amazing and we cooked all our meals. But when I go again I will have to check Tyler’s out. Yes, the bougainvillea was gorgeous. It was really the only thing that popped in the desert.
Oh that looks fabulous – and I know Mary’s was fabulous too! Yaay for 80 degrees!! Have a great rest of your trip.
It was such a lovely time Barbara. The sun was such a wonderful treat.
Kim, it was so wonderful to have you come and stay for a few days here at Bella Terra. Your place in Palm Springs looks phenomenal and I can’t wait to hear more about it. Spending the weekend juicing the rest of the oranges on the tree as they are blooming for next year‘s crop. Safe travels my sweet friend!
The coffee, the orange juice, the amazing meals, the gorgeous property. It was all such an amazing respite. Thank you again for your kindness my friend.
Have a fabulous vacation Kim. I’m so envious????
It was really so wonderful Ann. I didn’t realize how much I have missed the warmth of the sun.
