Saltwater Sounds Weekly: Hello March!

  • Facebook
  • Email

Welcome to Saltwater Sounds, a collection of ideas, tips, and inspiration. This is where I share everything happening in the world of Shiplap and Shells, what’s to come, and the inspiration I’ve found from other bloggers around the web.

This and That…

Hello March! I’ve been waiting for you!

The weather hasn’t gotten any warmer or dryer. But just the fact that February is over, I would do a little happy dance if I had a good knee!

Come on spring!

yellow tulips in a nursery

This picture was taken last year when a friend and I visited the town of Sumner, WA., for some vintage shopping and lunch.

I loved this view. This is the coolest nursery, with beautiful flowers and many unique vintage pieces. I miss shopping. I hope I’ll be able to start getting out more soon.

The knee update is good. I’m making a lot of progress. I have now graduated from the walker to a crutch or cane. I’m sleeping on my side again. Thank goodness!

It feels a little like groundhog day EVERY SINGLE DAY, but I know that things will continue to get better as long as I do my physical therapy like a rock star. I’m working hard so I can be a gardener again.

Around the Garden and Greenhouse

We bought some grow lights for my seedlings.

I’ve never used them in the greenhouse, and my flowers have always turned out beautifully.

But they are always slow to start, so I look forward to seeing how much of a difference the lights will make.

Yes, my greenhouse is a mess right now.

I took a lot of the humidity domes off after the seeds germinated.

The rest of my seeds will be sown next week, like zinnias and cosmos, so I’ll be using these lids and heat mats all over again.

It’s getting crowded in the greenhouse right now. Love it!

Around Our Cottage

I’ve got lots going on next week on the blog.

I’ll share my kitchen and laundry room spring home tour and some Easter ideas and inspiration with other bloggers.

I am SLOWLY adding spring home decor to my cozy cottage, and with a lot of luck, I should be done today. There’s nothing like waiting until the last minute!

So excited to hear the good news about your knee, Kim! I know it takes a while to recover from things like that so it’s good that you’re doing things in a slow and steady way. I had to giggle when you mentioned finally being able to sleep on your side. I’ve tried a million times to be a back sleeper but for some reason, I just can’t do it! As always thanks so much for sharing your best gardening tips. Even though I’m in a different zone I try to adapt them for my porch and it helps a ton. Sending you lots of hugs, CoCo

    Happy Sunday Kim,
Glad your knee is mending. Take care!
Have you seen Claude Monet’s home in Giverny, France? It is done in blue and yellow! I’d love to have a tiled kitchen like his! And his garden! Extraordinary! The book, Monet’s Table by Claire Joyes, shows not only the kitchen and dining are, but the gardens he loved so dearly as well as recipes he and his family enjoyed.
Thank you for all your garden inspirations! You’ve really motivated me to start seeds early.

Glad to hear you’re progressing nicely with your knee surgery recovery. It’s been 4 weeks for me and I’m hanging in there. I have a small “knee pillow” I use between my knees which really helps with sleeping at night. (If you can get any sleep). I live on the panhandle of Florida and I’m dying to get out in my yard/flowerbeds and “dig in the dirt”. I actually love to sit in the middle of my flower beds and weed. My gardening, (and I use that term loosely), will have to wait a while. Glad to hear you’re doing well.
