Early Fall Vignettes With Vintage Decor and Natural Elements

Are you looking for some fall decor inspiration? I’ll share some of my favorite early fall decorating ideas, including fall vignettes, natural elements from last year, and a few new ones.

Decorating my home for fall is always a slow and drawn-out process. I pack up all the bright-colored, coastal-inspired summer decor and start replacing it with a few fall decorations at a time.

Part of the process is waiting for fresh pumpkins to become available in our area after October 1st. So we have to settle for faux pumpkins until then.

When creating a fall vignette, I always use vintage decor and natural elements found in the great outdoors. This is a winning combination!

Of course, I have pumpkins throughout my home for autumn. Fresh and faux, big and little, they’re everywhere. But today, I’m showing you some other items you can use in a vignette with your pumpkins.

Stacks of Vintage Books

You can add height and color to any fall vignette by stacking your vintage books.

Books are great for propping up a pumpkin too.

Vintage Wicker Baskets and Suitcases

I love using vintage pieces such as wicker picnic baskets and suitcases as foundation pieces for my fall vignette.

You can stack them on top of one another or stack other decor on top of them.

vintage glass jars

Vintage Glass Bottles

Glass bottles are such pretty vintage items to mix into any fall vignette. At the beginning of every fall season, I replace the coastal summer blues with amber and darker green bottles for fall.

You can place many of them together for impact or add one or two to a vignette.

vintage copper tea kettle and basket

Copper Pieces

I LOVE the warmth copper brings to any fall vignette. My favorite copper pieces are kettles, but there are bowls, canisters, buckets, pitchers, and much more.

Vintage Bowls and Baskets

Trays, bowls, and wire baskets are perfect for filling with pumpkins, pinecones, or apples.

Whether it’s fruits and vegetables, pinecones, grasses, greenery, or flowers, there’s no better way to decorate for fall than to add the outdoor natural elements to the indoors during autumn.

Fruits and Vegetables

Apples, pears, and pomegranates make great additions to a fall vignette. You can also use faux fruit and flowers, which look just as fabulous!

All the green and red apples I’ve shared here today are faux. It’s a great option because you won’t have to replace them all season. After all, they’ll never go bad.

Artichokes and pears are always in my kitchen during the fall season.

Here are some great options for your containers and vases this fall season…

Dried Hydrangea Stems

I love drying hydrangeas to use in fall vignettes. These blooms were cut towards the end of the summer after turning this amazing color.

I’ve even been known to use dried hydrangeas through Christmas.

Statice and strawflowers make the prettiest dried flowers for fall.

Sunflowers

Sunflowers are great for transitioning from summer to early fall and will brighten any room.

I grew sunflowers in the garden this year, but these are faux, so I don’t have to fuss with replacing them throughout the season.

Cotton stems always impact any fall vignette or by themselves in a vintage crock like this. I usually leave the stems up through winter because I can’t get enough of them.

Olive Trees

Bring out the olive trees and wreaths once you’ve left summer behind. Eucalyptus wreaths and garlands are big for fall around here as well.

    1. Hi Charlene!
Thank you for reaching out. I absolutely love the dried apple pumpkin you saw in the post. The sad part is that I did buy it and it was years ago so I can’t remember where but it was most likely a local specialty store. I have not seen anything like it since. I hope you’re enjoying your fall!

  2. Kim,
Where did you get the lamp (specifically the shade) in the picture with hydrangeas? The lamp is on the half circle wire table with a wicker case. The shade looks like linen with 4 stripes at the bottom of the shade.
You do a wonderful job using color. It always puts me in a happy mood.
    Thank you,
    Marie

gives me a little rest while waiting for inspiration. ( you shared some great ideas )
We are experiencing so much smoke from the California fires it just broke my heart to hear the Redwoods are burning the
camp I went to as a child is gone .
We have been evacuated three times in the last ten years , wildfires have become part of living in Montana.
Thank you for your lovely posts today I needed something pretty to get my mind off all that’s going on right now .

    1. I’m so sorry you’re experiencing such poor air quality due to the fires. I can’t imagine how bad it must be there. I remember the terrible fires we had a couple of years ago in Washington and Canada and we had to wear masks and stay in for weeks. It is heartbreaking to see so much damage in California. I went camping near the Redwoods as a kid myself. It is just so sad. I hope it gets better for you soon Alexis.

  12. It is hard to believe Fall is almost here. I need to get on board and get my Fall decorations out. I love all of your beautiful vignettes. That straw pumpkin is adorable. I love all of you floral arrangements. Really sets the stage and your coffee is gorgeous! I love the color. Happy Fall decorating, Kim! Have a blessed weekend!

    1. I wish I could be more of a DIYer and make my pumpkins rather than buy them! If you do make some, I can’t wait to see them!
