Saltwater Sounds: A Moody Christmas Sneak Peek

Welcome To This Week’s Saltwater Sounds…

A collection of ideas, tips, and inspiration. Here, I share everything happening in the world of Shiplap and Shells and the inspiration I’ve found throughout the week.

This and That

What a week it’s been — equal parts cozy, creative, and a little bit sparkly over here. I officially finished decorating our living room and kitchen for Christmas, and I’m so excited for you to see it all.

This year, I went in a totally different direction and created a moody cottage Christmas with deep shades of burgundy, brown, navy, olive, and cream. It feels warm, calm, and just a little dramatic — in the best way.

You’ll find dried hydrangeas tucked into trees, velvet ribbon everywhere, and layers of soft textures that make the room feel like it’s giving you a hug.

And while I’ll be sharing the full Christmas home tour tomorrow morning, I thought today would be the perfect time for a little sneak peek and a few moments from the week.

A Decorating Week That Felt Really Good

You know how sometimes decorating feels like work… and other years it feels like pure joy?
This was definitely a joy-filled week.

Why “Moody Christmas” Just Felt Right

I’ve been dreaming of softer, deeper tones this season — something that feels grounded and natural but still festive.

So this year’s look blends:

  • Burgundy + navy for depth
  • Olive + brown for warmth
  • Cream for contrast
  • And of course, greenery + vintage treasures because it wouldn’t be my cottage without them
