Saltwater Sounds: A Cozy Weekend of Gratitude, Leftovers & Holiday Cheer

Welcome To This Week’s Saltwater Sounds…

A collection of ideas, tips, and inspiration. Here, I share everything happening in the world of Shiplap and Shells, what to look forward to on the blog, and the inspiration I’ve found throughout the week.

Hi friends! I hope your Thanksgiving week was full of warmth, good food, and people you love.

Now that the dishes are done and the leftovers have been taking over the fridge, it’s hard to believe we’re already wrapping up November.

We spent the holiday with good friends (holiday orphans for life!), and it was such a wonderful day.

Our hostess’s home was so warm and festive, and the turkey was chef’s kiss perfection.

I love sharing my friend Lori’s home. It’s over 100 years old, just like ours.

Have you seen the movie “The Holiday” where Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet swap houses? This home reminds me of the English countryside cottage, especially during the holidays.

It’s so charming and inviting.

So, how have you been spending your holiday weekend?

Whether you spent the long weekend relaxing, entertaining, cooking, shopping, or doing absolutely nothing (also an excellent choice), I hope it’s been good to you.

What category did you fall into?

  • A) Eating a ton of leftovers
  • B) Shopping until you drop
  • C) Relaxing and not doing a thing
  • D) Getting started on your holiday bucket list
  • E) Something entirely different

And just like that — we’re officially shifting into Christmas mode.

I know for many of you, this weekend feels like the official bridge between seasons. The pumpkins are still sitting in the garden, but the twinkle lights are calling your name.

Over the next week, I’ll be making wreaths, slowly adding more greenery, little trees, dried oranges, and a few moody Christmas touches around the cottage.

I’ve always had this thing about letting the season unfold a little at a time. But don’t worry, I should be done by New Year’s Eve!

  1. Kim, Lori’s home is so warm and welcoming! I love the movie, The Holiday, and try to watch it every year as I soak up the wonderful aspects of both homes featured! The food looks amazing too! Glad you were able to spend the day with loving friends….Now off to Christmas. I just put the pumpkins in the hen house (the chickens get to have Thanksgiving too!), and am slowly decorating. We seem to have lots of company stopping by so not much is getting accomplished, but I am not complaining. Friends are the best! Thanks for sharing your holiday with us.
