Celebrating Spring With a Cheerful Cottage Style Home Tour

Are you looking for some home decor inspiration now that spring has finally arrived? I don’t know a better way to celebrate the season than to take a tour of our spring cottage-style home.

Spring has finally arrived! And what better time to take you on an early spring tour of our Pacific Northwest cottage on the Puget Sound?

It feels so good to brighten up our cottage home after a long and gloomy winter. It’s almost as if a switch has been flipped, and the spring home decor has made our cottage come alive again.

Since the last spring tour I took you on, so many decor changes have been made in the living room.

  • New couch
  • Different coffee table (the turquoise table didn’t match the new couch, so we brought in a neutral round table)
  • Vintage cabinet (sideboard)
  • New rug

Ollie was a puppy last year, and here he is in one of my spring tour pics from 2021. We had to take the living room area rug away the previous winter and spring because he wasn’t potty trained yet. It felt so bare!

But now that Ollie is potty trained and a big boy, we have a new rug in this space.

Our new one-of-a-kind vintage rug is from Revival, and I am in LOVE!

If this is your first time here, I’ll let you in on a little secret…I am passionate about vintage decor, antique finds, greenery, and flowers…LOTS AND LOTS OF FLOWERS!

Vintage finds mixed with flowers and greenery are the best combination for a spring cottage.

vintage white cabinet with copper top and spring decor

I didn’t have this vintage copper-top cabinet \ sideboard last spring. This is one of my all-time favorite vintage finds. I’d like to say it was a thrifted find, but I paid dearly for it, over $600.

It has helped with my “small house” storage dilemma and is perfect for displaying my seasonal vignettes in the living room.

vintage spring home decor

I bought the vintage ceiling tile on a shopping spree in Sumner, Wa. It makes a great focal point in this room, and I plan to eventually make it into a mirror.

vintage spring home decor

Glass and wire cloches and pedestals are the perfect home decor accessory for a pretty spring feel. Displaying a nest with an Easter egg or two and a bit of moss makes a great vignette for the change of season.

wire cloche with nest full of eggs

I will try to up my game next year and plant pansies in a teacup with a cloche over the following spring season.

vintage cream and green books

I always display vintage books in my seasonal vignettes year-round. I love their look and the simplicity they bring to any space.

vintage bird bath with nest of eggs

Here are more nests with eggs.

I love the vintage birdbath I found years and years ago. The green and white vintage dishes add beautiful spring color to this space.

moss bunny and green vintage box with greenery

I have lots of moss bunnies around the house, too. These are great to use in spring tablescapes.

fresh flowers in wicker and glass vase and faux greenery

There may have been a Trader Joe’s shopping trip before I took these pictures for my spring home tour.

The thing is, I don’t always have time to take the 45-minute trip across the Tacoma Narrows toll bridge to get fabulous flowers from TJ’s. And as good a deal as they are, I don’t have any self-control when it comes to flowers, so I do end up spending a lot of money when I’m there.

fresh flowers in glass and wicker vase

Spring is the time of year when I like to use faux plants and flowers throughout my cottage. The cut flower garden is not a reality this time of year, so artificial flowers do the trick. And they seriously look real, depending on where you shop for them.

spring bulbs in pot and vintage clock

This cute little spring bulb pot is also from Trader Joe’s. They cost the same as a bouquet of fresh flowers and last longer!

When we get to the kitchen, you’ll see some other ways I like to bring the beautiful blooms into the house for spring at a very reasonable and sometimes even free price.

I’ve always gone with a more neutral area rug and picked up the brighter spring colors in the room through decorative pillows and throws.

However, with the bold pattern in our new rug, I decided to keep the other textiles in the room more neutral this year. Otherwise, there would have been way too much going on.

I tried to pick up the greens from the rug through greenery and accessories. I’ll probably switch it back up in the summer so stay tuned!

spring vignette

The coffee table is styled with ceramic bunnies and birds, which are always tucked in here and there throughout the cottage.

daffodil bulbs in urn

Daffodil bulbs are a great way to brighten up your home. And as you can see here, they look just as pretty even when they haven’t bloomed yet.

I stuck the container in my urn and covered the edges with Spanish moss. Of course, it bloomed two days after I took all my pictures.

coffee table spring vignette

Here’s the same view with the daffodils swapped for a vase of assorted flowers. As you can see here, I always try to start with a tray or something that adds height to the spring decor on my coffee table.

I found this wooden tray at Target last winter under Hearth and Hand but it seems to be sold out.

black cabinet with white ironestone

My vintage ironstone and transferware live in this china cabinet year-round.

I switch colorful china in and out depending on the time of year. I removed the red and white transferware for Christmas and Valentine’s Day and kept it mostly white ironstone for spring.

Welcome to one of my favorite rooms in our home, the cottage-style kitchen. Here I’ll take you on the spring kitchen tour.

Our kitchen is a bit on the small side but we do have enough room for a small island and dining table at the eating area.

My husband built the pot rack for me which I absolutely love. This is a great place to hang my vintage copper pots and dried flowers from my cutting garden.

We will be taking on the project of upcycling this dresser once again and I can’t wait to show you when it’s finished.

By adding spring flowers and greenery to our cottage kitchen, this space really does come alive.

vintage green seltzer bottles and greenery on counter

These stunning green vintage seltzer bottles make quite a statement. You might remember them from last spring’s living room tour.

spring flowers on butcherblock kitchen island

Putting spring bulbs and flowering plants in a cute pot with some moss is such an easy way to bring beautiful blooms into the house.

spring bulbs and violas on kitchen island

You can find packs of violas and pansies basically anywhere for a great price.

farm table and spring decor

Here’s our kitchen eating area. We added the window seat and took a wall out between the kitchen and living room to make more room for the dining table.

I went with blush-colored printed pillows from Target in this space since I couldn’t do much in the living room.

Here, you can see I made a super simple centerpiece for everyday living.

spring centerpiece on table

I added yet another glass cloche with a nest of eggs. A bowl full of faux green apples gives this spring vignette a pop of color.

flowering blooms

A few flowering branches were cut and brought in to force bloom them right in front of our eyes.

This is the easiest and cheapest way to bring the outdoors inside. I start cutting branches from the yard in the winter. I’m actually going to cut some lilac branches this week to see how they do. I’ll let you know how it goes.

forsythia and lemons on kitchen table overlooking greenhouse

Here’s a shot from last year when I force-bloomed forsythia in this space.

garden-inspired spring tablescape

I love bringing the outdoors in, especially when the weather doesn’t allow for dining alfresco.

FUN FACT: Our contractor found this big butcher block at a Dunkin Donuts that was going out of business and added it to our dresser.

It took almost 10 years to get to this point, but we’ve added the charm and character this beach cottage deserves.
