Saltwater Sounds Weekly: Getting Ready for the Holidays
Welcome to Saltwater Sounds, a collection of ideas, tips, and inspiration. This is where I share everything happening in the world of Shiplap and Shells, what’s to come, and the inspiration I’ve found from other bloggers around the web.
THIS AND THAT
As the leaves continue to fall and the temperature drops, there’s no denying that the holiday season is here.
It’s all about the cozy sweaters, sipping on some hot cocoa, and getting into the festive spirit. The past couple of weeks have been all about holiday shopping and Christmas decorating for me.
It’s never too early to start checking off your gift list whether you’re shopping for family and friends, or treating yourself. That’s exactly what I did when I took a trip to University Village in Seattle last weekend.
Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma, and Anthropologie were on the list to visit.

They had plenty of holiday items for both neutral and plaid Christmas themes.
There’s a large assortment of Christmas stockings.
And plenty of cozy throws and pillows.
Christmas home decor like red berry trees and red and white candles.
I loved this Christmas quilt. If you’re looking for holiday bedding Pottery Barn has a great selection.
I went home with a ceramic bowl. The Mesa handcrafted vase and urn are beautiful as well.
Check out the gingerbread shop!
Here are some favorites from their collection:
The next stop was Williams Sonoma for some hostess gifts and a few stocking stuffers. If you know someone with a sweet tooth, there are plenty of options for you.
There are many flavors of hot chocolate.
Do you know a popcorn lover?
Bistro Tile Margot Monogram Mugs from Anthropologie.
The Gig Harbor Girl’s Night Out event was Thursday night and it was so fun! There was food and shopping throughout the evening.
Dolly Mama had both Christmas home decor and women’s clothing. The red and white holiday items were fun and festive.
And they had plenty of green and neutral decor to choose from.
Harbornest is another one of my favorite stores to shop for home decor and clothing.
AROUND THE GARDEN
The picture above with the beautiful fall leaves was taken last weekend. But after Friday night’s storm, the tree is now completely bare.
We cut down the sad-looking dahlias that blackened from the frost. I pulled up the marigolds as well.

Kim, I have store envy. I don’t think we have anything like this in Phoenix (however, I don’t do alot of shopping). The photos are amazing and that tree is its autumn glory-oh my! My decorating starts after Thanksgiving, but we had a mini Thanksgiving celebration this past weekend with all my children home together. So it may be the first year I do a bit of Christmas decorating before Thanksgiving day. Thanks for sharing my mini-appetizer boards. You are simply the best!
How fun that all your children were able to spend an early Thanksgiving with you Mary. I’m sure it was the most beautiful setting.
Wow – the stores are lovely Kim – what wonderful places to shop! And so fun that your shopping is already done. You’ll be able to enjoy the holidays so much more. Thanks for sharing your week, and for the great inspiration, as always! 🙂 Hapy November!
Thank you so much for following along Barbara. I’m afraid I’ve been shopping a little too much lately. And it is mostly for me. Oh well. Happy holidays my friend.
Has this weather not been crazy?! A lot of things broke this weekend in my garden. I am ready to get all the twinkle lights up since the weather is calling for it. Your post just inspired me even more. Thank you so very much for highlighting my blog post Kim.
Thank you so much for following along this week Melba. I love everything you do my friend.
Your shopping trip sounds like so much fun. I have barely started my shopping. Hugs to you.
Sadly, I’ve been shopping mostly for me. But it has been fun. Happy holidays Renae and thank you so much for being here.
