This and That

Hello June! We’ve been waiting for you!

This is one of my favorite months of the year. The garden looks lush, and the cut flowers show promise! I have two official zinnia blooms in my raised beds…it’s the little things that warm my heart.

We’re crossing our fingers that our yard projects will be completed by the end of next week.

June is a fabulous month with plenty to look forward to. Here are some highlights:

  • Longer Days and Warmer Weather: Enjoy more daylight hours, perfect for outdoor activities, gardening, and evening strolls.
  • Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables: Fresh produce, such as strawberries, cherries, and peaches, are in season.
  • Outdoor Activities and Events: Festivals, farmers markets, outdoor concerts, and community events become more frequent.
  • Gardening Opportunities: This is an ideal time to plant summer flowers, vegetables, and herbs and to maintain and enjoy your garden.
  • Vacation and Travel: It’s a great time to plan vacations, weekend getaways, or day trips to enjoy the sunny weather.
  • National Holidays and Observances: In the U.S., Flag Day (June 14th) and Father’s Day (the third Sunday in June) are occasions for celebration and family gatherings.
  • Outdoor Entertaining: Perfect season for barbecues, picnics, and outdoor dining with friends and family.
  • Home Improvement Projects: Longer days and warmer weather make tackling DIY projects and improvements around the house easier.
  • Health and Wellness: More opportunities for outdoor exercise, such as running, cycling, and yoga in the park.

As if I didn’t have enough happening in the yard, I decided to create a pumpkin patch in my side yard.

Here’s the view above with the grass removed and fish compost added to the garden space. I’ll grow white pumpkins, mini pumpkins for decorating indoors, and wildflowers.

As I’m writing this, we have four new mole holes in these new garden beds now. They are absolutely relentless this season. No space that is off-limits to them. These pesky creatures are feasting on all my worms and keep coming back for more.

Some say I have an obsession, but I call it a passion for the beach cottage coastal vibe at this time of year.

Around the Garden and Greenhouse

I have spent the last few weeks planting, creating new garden beds, weeding, you name it.

My favorite thing to do is pull all the vintage garden decor out of the garage and strategically place it throughout my garden spaces.

I’m going to spray paint some beat-up iron furniture this week and can’t wait to share with you where I put it next week!
