Saltwater Sounds: Settling Into February
Welcome To This Week’s Saltwater Sounds…
A collection of ideas, tips, and inspiration. Here, I share everything happening in the world of Shiplap and Shells, what to look forward to on the blog, and the inspiration I’ve found throughout the week.
This Week at a Glance
February is already feeling like it’s off to a fun start around here.
Between the gorgeous stretch of sunshine we had this past week, seed sowing in the greenhouse, and the big game happening today, there’s been plenty to enjoy.

Of course, the rain has made its return this weekend (hello, Pacific Northwest), but I’m not complaining. We soaked up every bit of that sunshine while it lasted.

And with Valentine’s (or Galentine’s) Day just around the corner, this time of year always feels like a mix of cozy winter moments and little hints of spring sneaking in.
Speaking of today, are you watching the big game for the football, the commercials, or the snacks? I’m usually in for the party snacks, but this year it’s all about the Seattle Seahawks!
Whether you’re cheering for every tackle or just a fan of the snacks and the commercials, I hope you have a great day. Go Hawks!
In the Garden (and Greenhouse)

A quick nursery trip this week turned into one of those dangerous but satisfying outings. I came home with a few new shrubs, blooming daffodils, primroses, and some cheerful pansies and violas…the kind of plants that instantly lift your mood this time of year.

I also scored the most beautiful hellebores at Costco last week and cannot wait to get them planted. They’re such a standout in the winter garden and one of my absolute favorites for adding color when everything else is still waking up.

The greenhouse is officially in motion now. I’ve been sowing seeds, and I’m happy to report that the eggplant, onions, and statice are already looking strong and healthy.
There’s something so satisfying about seeing those first seedlings pop up. It really makes spring feel possible, even on rainy days.

The geraniums are overwintering in theg reenhouse and look so healthy right now.

Out in the garden, things are slowly stirring. Bulbs are pushing through the soil, and it won’t be long before I’m back to spending more time with my hands in the dirt. Until then, the greenhouse is my happy place. And Jax’s too.
Around the Cottage

Is it too soon for the spring bunnies to come out? I’m trying to decide.

When do you start decorating for spring? For me, it depends on my mood. And this year, my mood says, “Bring it on!”
