Saltwater Sounds: Ready to Get in the Halloween Spirit?

Welcome to Saltwater Sounds, a collection of ideas, tips, and inspiration. Here, I share everything happening in the world of Shiplap and Shells, what’s to come, and the inspiration I’ve found from other bloggers around the web.

This and That

Happy Sunday!

This weekend’s Saltwater Sounds wrap-up is all about the Halloween spirit. I have some great recipes, DIYs, and ideas from other bloggers to inspire you, and I’m sharing my fun and spooky greenhouse porch. To be honest, it’s actually more fun and less spooky.

I’m going in for my next knee replacement on Friday, so I’ve been trying to complete every project I’ve started this year. I spent Friday and Saturday painting, cleaning, and organizing my office, and I should have pictures to share with you next week. It’s looking good!

geraniums being planted in pots in the garden

The geraniums are officially in the greenhouse for overwintering. I’m also going to try to plant the spring bulbs this week.

fall greenhouse and patio

The fall garden still looks great with colorful mums, asters, sedum autumn joy, and euphoria.

My favorite part of the garden is the fall planters and containers filled with pumpkins, ornamental grasses, kale, cabbage, pansies, and violas.

I love the fall season planters even more than the ones growing in the summer months.

The colors are so vivid, and the pumpkins are a perfect touch.

Now we’re in the cut flower garden, where the zinnias and marigolds are still blooming, but they are definitely starting to slow down.

The strawflowers are starting to fade a bit.

fuchsia dahlias in the garden

The dahlias are looking beautiful, but I know that will change as soon as we have heavy rainfall. The rain makes the flower heads mushy.

I harvested my last tomatoes from the garden.

the back of an SUV decorated for Halloween

Since this week is about Halloween, I thought I’d show you some of the pictures we took at the community Trunk or Treat last year, especially since I won’t be able to go this year.

Our street doesn’t get trick-or-treaters, so we love passing out candy to all the kiddos at the trunk-or-treat event. It was also a lot of fun decorating the back of my SUV.

A lot is going on back there! I was definitely not thinking that “less was more” at the time, cramming in every skeleton I could!

I took the easy way out last year and threw on some cat ears, a tail, and a bow tie. It was so cold that night, so I wanted to make it easy for myself.
