Saltwater Sounds: Sunshine, Storms, and Springtime Shopping
Welcome to this week’s edition of Saltwater Sounds, a collection of ideas, tips, and inspiration. Here, I share everything happening in the world of Shiplap and Shells, what to look forward to on the blog, and the inspiration I’ve found throughout the week.
Happy March! Spring is almost here, and I couldn’t be happier.
What a week it has been! Mother Nature sure knows how to keep us on our toes. We had a huge rain and windstorm roll through last week that knocked out the power overnight, making for a sleepless (and slightly eerie) evening.
But in true Pacific Northwest fashion, the weather quickly changed its tune. The days have warmed up to the low sixties with plenty of sunshine—a welcome taste of spring.
Of course, the rain is coming back this week, but it was a great tease while it lasted.

A Springtime Vintage Shopping Trip
Nothing says “spring refresh” like a good old-fashioned girls’ shopping trip. A few friends and I headed to Centralia to hunt for vintage treasures, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.
I found most of my goodies at a store whose owner is retiring. Everything was 40% off! I found the most gorgeous antique mirror to hang above the mantel in my bedroom.
I also fell in love with a vintage panel of shutters (which I now have to go back and get—a three-hour round trip, but totally worth it!).
I also picked up this hanging basket.
I was surprised by the many antique malls in the historic downtown area. This vintage bar cart was one of my favorite pieces, but I didn’t have the space in our cottage for it.
Now, I had to take a picture of this store-front display left over from Valentine’s Day. It was a little creepy, in my opinion. The theme was “at the doctor’s office.” Is it just me? What do you think?
I found this sink with all the faucets and shower heads in the restaurant restroom where we had lunch. Pretty funky!
Spring is also in full bloom at HomeGoods. Their aisles are bursting with faux spring flowers, greenery, and all the little touches that make your home feel light and bright this time of year.
The large green and white floral ceramic pot came home with me. They look even better in person.
Trader Joe’s also looks like spring has sprung.
If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to bring spring indoors, grab a few pots of blooming bulbs—they instantly liven up any space.
