Saltwater Sounds Weekly: There’s No Place Like Home

Welcome to Saltwater Sounds, a collection of ideas, tips, and inspiration. This is where I share everything happening in the world of Shiplap and Shells, what’s to come, and the inspiration I’ve found from other bloggers around the web.

This and That…

We’re home and it’s so good to be back.

I absolutely loved being on the boat for a couple of weeks. It actually felt like a second home which was a great feeling. We even watched the series finales of Ted Lasso and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel which I will miss so much.

We don’t watch a ton of TV but always enjoyed watching these shows. Now we’re trying to find something else to watch. Any recommendations?

I still have so many pics to share and am still hoping to write a blog post about our boat, what we’ve done to it since we’ve owned it, and pictures of each room.

The “3-Hour Tour” on the Boat

This week has been fun, with the exception of not really being able to spend time in the garden like I’ve wanted to.

If you remember back in April, there was an auction where The Longbranch Foundation raised money for students in our community.

My husband and I donated a couple of boat cruises for the cause and took the first cruise last Thursday. We had heavy appetizers and cocktails, and just like Gilligan’s Island, it was a “3 hours cruise”. Luckily, the weather didn’t get rough and the tiny boat was not tossed.

We hosted 6 guests and tried to make their event as nice as possible. We have the next one happening today. It should be just as fun as the first.

I didn’t take pictures of the boat cruise party but here are a few pics of the boat all cleaned up.

Here’s a picture of the galley and eating area taken from the salon.

This is the view of the stateroom.

Here is the cockpit at the back of the boat. It’s almost like a screened porch, but we can lift the windows to open things up when it’s warm.

Around the Garden

Between trying to catch up on real life after our trip, getting ready for the cruise events, and 2 days of rain, I haven’t spent much time in the garden. And I miss it!

At least I was able to see some of the peonies. This plant is a Gay Paree Peony from Breck’s Blooms.

I took a couple of pictures the day I got home but they’re not that great. But, this gives you an idea of what’s starting to happen in the garden.

These are the most gorgeous peonies but they’re so bright that it’s almost impossible for me to get a good picture of them.

The Calla lilies are now in full bloom.

Garden Inspiration from Our Boat Trip

Here’s a great view of Puget Sound and a sweet little garden in Langley.

I want to find some Fire Spinner Ice Plants and plant them in my cottage garden.

I’ve never seen a Columbine plant quite like this. I believe it’s an Aquilegia Saximontana Rose And Pink Columbine. Am I right?

This is such a gorgeous tree. It looks like a California Lilac and the color is incredible.

  10. Ah, you’re lucky next door neighbors! They get to enjoy your amazing yard and gardens , no work required 😆 It has rained pretty much every day or night here in Boulder for the last 5 weeks. We are pretending we live in your area and will be sorry to see it go. The sun and heat at altitude is scorching and I dread it every year. All is looking beautiful inside and out, the boat too.
