20 Fall Living Room Decor Ideas for a Warm and Cozy Refresh

If you’re looking for ideas to decorate your living room for fall, you’re in the right place. Today, I’m sharing my favorite ways to style fall living room decor. From the coffee table and fireplace mantel to easy, budget-friendly ways to add seasonal charm with thrift store finds, vintage pieces, and cozy textiles.

Fall has officially arrived here in the PNW, and I’m ready to bring all the cozy vibes inside. Whether you have a spacious great room or a small living room like I do, a few simple changes can completely transform the space.

I love adding cozy textures, warm colors, and natural elements that make me want to curl up with a good book (and maybe a pumpkin spice latte) while the rain taps on the windows.

Decorating for the fall season doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. The easiest way to bring that cozy fall vibe into your home is to layer in warm tones, swap out a few accessories, and bring in plenty of fall foliage, gourds, and faux pumpkins.

A few small touches can go a long way toward creating a cozy home that feels ready for sweater weather.

Fall Throw Pillows

Swapping out pillow covers is one of my favorite and most budget-friendly ways to refresh a cozy living room for fall.

Look for warm tones like burnt orange, rust, mustard, and deep green, or go for a neutral color palette (my favorite) with creamy whites, soft grays, and earthy browns for a subtle fall feel.

Mix cozy textures like velvet, chunky knits, and linen for extra warmth and interest. The best part? New pillow covers are an easy idea that can be stored and reused year after year.

Cozy Blankets and Throws

Nothing says cozy fall like draping a warm blanket or two over your couch or armchair. I love mixing plaid blankets with soft faux fur throws to create instant coziness.

This is also a great way to introduce fall colors and textiles into your living room decor without making a permanent change.

Drape one across the back of the sofa, fold one into a pretty basket near the fireplace, or stack a few on a ladder for a stylish fall-inspired living room display.

Fall Coffee Table Decor Ideas

Your coffee table is the perfect place to have a little seasonal fun, and it can completely change the fall feel of the room. I usually start with a pretty tray or bowl as a base (so it’s easy to clear off if we need room for snacks or game night).

Layer in white pumpkins, dried flowers, seasonal fruit, fall branches, pinecones, and always — always — a scented candle (bonus points if it smells like cinnamon or spiced pumpkin).

A stack of favorite books, a little vintage piece like brass candlesticks, and maybe even a few gourds or faux pumpkins finish it off.

Console and Side Table Decor

If you have a console table behind your sofa or a side table next to your favorite chair, these are perfect spots for small touches of fall.

Style a few accessories like a rustic vase filled with fall branches or fall foliage, stack some books with a small faux pumpkin on top, and add a scented candle for instant cozy vibes.

I personally love adding my vintage suitcase and wicker picnic basket to our sofa table for height.

Staircase Fall Decor

If you have a staircase, wrap a garland of autumn leaves or eucalyptus along the banister, tuck in mini faux pumpkins or fall foliage, and add a strand of fairy lights for extra warmth on those darker fall evenings.

Fall Entryway Ideas

We don’t have a formal entryway — when you walk through our front door, you’re basically right in the living room. But even a small space can set the tone for the whole house, so I like to make it feel extra welcoming.

Try hanging a wreath on the door, placing a basket of throw blankets or plaid blankets by a bench, and styling a vase with fall branches on the console table. Even something as simple as a bowl of pinecones or a scented candle can add instant cozy vibes to the first spot your guests see.

Fall Wall Decor

A simple change like swapping out summer prints for fall art & photos can make a big difference in your living space.

Try botanical prints, autumn landscapes, or even framed pressed leaves for a subtle fall feel. You could also hang a small wreath or garland on a mirror for a pretty accent.

I also love hanging wall art with cozy fall sayings. It’s like giving your walls a seasonal sweater.

Bookcase and Shelf Styling

Shelves are a fun way to incorporate seasonal decorating without overhauling the entire room.

Replace a few everyday accessories with fall-inspired living room pieces — a vase of faux florals, a bowl of mini white pumpkins, or a textured pumpkin or two.

You can even sneak in a subtle neutral color palette with warm wood tones and cozy accents that tie back to your fall color scheme.

A few small touches on each shelf can create a pulled-together look that feels intentional but not cluttered.

Fall Floral Arrangements

Whether you use real pumpkins as vases, a bundle of fall branches, or faux florals, a seasonal floral arrangement can be a stunning focal point.

I love mixing fresh blooms like dahlias with dried elements (wheat stalks or seed pods) for a creative and budget-friendly way to celebrate the fall season.

I’ve also been known to add flowers from Trader Joe’s to a vintage galvanized bucket throughout the season.

Fall Wreaths

A wreath isn’t just for the front door!

Hang one over the fireplace mantel, above a console, or even layered on a mirror.

You can go with faux pumpkins, dried leaves, fall foliage, or even a simple eucalyptus wreath for a neutral color palette that still brings the cozy fall vibe.

Fall Baskets

Baskets are one of my favorite ways to add both function and style to a cozy living room.

Fill them with warm blankets, stack thrift store finds like old books, or use them to corral faux pumpkins and gourds. They’re a budget-friendly way to add texture and keep things tidy.

Fall Fireplace and Mantel Styling

If your fireplace mantel isn’t already the star of the room, fall is the perfect excuse to make it one.

Start with a garland of greenery or dried fall foliage to set the stage, then tuck in real pumpkins, faux pumpkins, gourds, and pinecones for texture.

If you don’t have a mantel, try styling the top of a console table or even your TV stand. Add fall art or photos in the background, layer in candles for a soft glow, and you’ll still get that same cozy fall vibe without a fireplace.

Fall Art and Photos

Swap out a few frames with fall-inspired living room artwork or photos from a favorite autumn trip. It’s such an easy idea to refresh your room decor and give it a seasonal update without spending much.

Candles and Lighting

Nothing creates coziness faster than warm, soft lighting.

Add lamps with amber-toned bulbs, scatter scented candles that smell like pumpkins or apples, or use LED tapers for a safe glow.

The right lighting can transform a space into the perfect place to curl up under a warm blanket at the end of the day.

Vintage Fall Vignettes

One of my favorite ways to decorate for fall is by creating little vintage vignettes around the living room. It’s amazing how a few thrift store finds and vintage pieces can instantly make a space feel cozy and full of character.

A few years ago, I found the most perfectly rustic vintage wood bowl at one of my favorite shops, and I knew right away it was coming home with me.

It first landed on my coffee table filled with faux apples, later got a refresh with the prettiest dried hydrangeas, and now I honestly can’t imagine the room without it.

The trick is to shop your home and play around with grouping items together. A wooden crate with mini white pumpkins, an old stack of books, and a tiny scented candle can become the perfect focal point.

And yes, you might end up with more pumpkins than you technically need, but is there really such a thing as too many pumpkins in the fall season?

Once you’ve refreshed your space with some of these fall decor ideas, here are a few general tips to pull everything together and create the perfect cozy atmosphere:

Choose a Color Scheme

Pick a fall color scheme that fits your style, whether that’s rich warm colors like orange, rust, and gold, or a neutral color palette of creamy whites, warm browns, and soft grays.

This makes your living room decor feel cohesive and polished.

Use Natural Elements

Bring the outdoors in by adding fall branches, fall foliage, real pumpkins, gourds, pinecones, and even a bowl of acorns. These natural elements instantly give your living space that fresh fall feel.

Mix Patterns and Textures

Layering different textiles is an easy way to add depth and warmth.

Pair plaid blankets with linen new pillow covers, mix woven baskets with chunky knits, and add a cozy rug underfoot for even more coziness.

Find Vintage Fall Decor Items

Scour thrift store finds for unique vintage pieces such as copper pots, wooden bowls, or antique books, make wonderful room fall decor accents, and add character to your cozy fall vibe.

Connect With the Rest of the House

For a cohesive look, coordinate your fall living room decor ideas with the rest of your home. Use similar accessories or repeat your chosen fall colors in the entryway or kitchen so everything feels connected.
