Saltwater Sounds Weekly: A Week of Winter Nesting

Welcome to Saltwater Sounds, a collection of ideas, tips, and inspiration. This is where I share everything happening in the world of Shiplap and Shells, what’s to come, and the inspiration I’ve found from other bloggers around the web.

This and That

I’ve been nesting this week and have been LOVING it!

I opted to stay inside my toasty little cottage and spend time organizing my life during the cold week we had. That included clearing out and saying goodbye to anything that doesn’t inspire me anymore.

It feels good! I have more storage space now, making it easier to organize my cupboards and closets.

A friend brought me a bundle of forsythia branches that I’m force-blooming. You can see them in the first photo of this post. I can’t wait for the beautiful bright blooms to brighten up our winter home.

My gardening friend Jennifer at The Flowering Farmhouse has a new podcast called The Backyard Bouquet. Her podcast is all about the world of cut flowers and gardening.

I had the pleasure of being Jen’s guest on episode 5. Be sure to check out our conversation.

Our bay in front of the house was freezing last week.

Around the Garden and Greenhouse

I’ve already started writing in my gardening journal and it’s only January.

The sweet pea and yarrow seed sowing had to be postponed due to the 18-20° F. temps we experienced last week. I can’t wait to get started. I’ll share some pics of the inside of the greenhouse in next week’s post.

Around Our Beach Cottage

I’ve added some blue and white decor to our kitchen shelves.

I’m currently painting the walls of the stairway hallway. One coat down.

Look at the difference! It’s so much lighter.

  • I love the pattern on this napkin set.
  • These glass bee wine glasses from Anthropologie are the prettiest colors.
  • This cookie heart serving platter is perfect for your Valentine’s Day celebrations.
