Saltwater Sounds Weekly: Hello Summer
Welcome to Saltwater Sounds, a collection of ideas, tips, and inspiration. Here, I share everything happening in the world of Shiplap and Shells, what’s to come, and the inspiration I’ve found from other bloggers around the web.
This and That
It is officially summer, and the 4th of July will be here before you know it.
It’s my favorite time of year. We usually have very comfortable summer temperatures in the Seattle area. This next week looks like it will be cooler; we will only see temperatures in the mid-sixties and low-seventies.
So, if you are one of the many experiencing an excruciating heatwave, now would be a good time to visit the Pacific Northwest!
How’s the weather where you are?

I did a little shopping in Poulsbo last week. Here are some views of Details Home and Garden, where I always get inspiration for my home decorating.
They have a great supply of house plants and containers.
This amazing piece would make a great island in a larger kitchen. It has drawers and casters on both sides.
This piece is more my size! It was well above my budget, but it made me think about begging my husband to make me one.

Around the Garden and Greenhouse
It’s starting to look like summer in the garden.
The above picture was taken from my deck and shows the brick pavers we had just put in. You can also see a section of lawn where we brought more dirt in to level out the mole hole damage and seeded.
After a couple of weeks, the grass is finally starting to grow in.
Here’s another view from the deck of our greenhouse patio.
We added a couple more strings of bistro lights above the patio because, as far as I’m concerned, you can never have too many strings of lights in a garden.
Garden Supplies and Tools
Check out my favorite garden supplies and tools for the growing season. Whether you’re looking for potting soil or deer repellent, you’ll find what I use in my own garden.

A question. I wanted to know if you direct sow your straw flowers or start in your greenhouse?
Hi Sally,
I start my strawflower seeds in the greenhouse every year.
