Celebrate Summer Home Tour with Coastal Cottage Touches

Are you looking for summer décor ideas and inspiration for your home? Welcome to my summer home tour with plenty of coastal cottage touches and beautiful blooms for the season.

Summer cottage home tour living room

I absolutely love decorating my home for summer. “Why” do you ask? Because it’s SO EASY!!! All you need are some bright-colored accessories, lots of flowers and greenery, seashells, and an oar or two!

This week I’m joining some of my blogging friends for The Bloggers Best Summer Home Tour, hosted by Kelly at The Tattered Pew. All week long we are welcoming you into our homes. Be sure to come back each day and click on the links below to see the complete tour.

Today is my day to share my home and garden with you along with 5 other talented bloggers. If you’re visiting from Pasha at Pasha is Home, welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. Didn’t you just love her bright and airy summer home tour?

Summer Living Room Tour

For those of you who have been following along with me for a while, you know that I removed my dark leather couch and relocated my two white slipcovered chairs in front of our living room window. That alone lightened the room up!

We found the most perfect vintage copper-top cabinet a few months ago. It has become the centerpiece for displaying my seasonal décor.

Coastal Summer Décor

When you live in a beach cottage, it’s pretty much an unwritten rule that you decorate for summer with seashells, nautical fishing floats, and sea glass.

I also love vintage books, but when the book covers are shades of blue I have to have them! These vintage books were a gift from Jays World.

Decorative Pillows and Throws for Summer

I wish I could be a little more unpredictable with my color choices for summer, but I’m such a huge fan of navy blue and turquoise. It seems so perfect for these next few months. I added in a touch of yellow here and there to lighten things up a bit.

decorative pillows on window seat

A friend of ours gifted us this pretty “Beach Cottage” pillow when she and her family were staying with us for a few days. I have moved that pillow all over the entire house and just love it!

Flowers & Greenery

I always love to bring the outdoors in and what better way to do that than with flowers and greenery throughout the house. It’s still a bit too early to be displaying cut flowers from the garden just yet but just wait until July.

I will have daisies, dahlias, zinnias, cosmos, black-eyed Susans and so much more from my cut flower garden!

Fresh bouquet of flowers

These were a pretty bouquet that I picked up from Costco.

faux hydrangeas in vintage galvanized bucket

When I can’t make it to town a great option is to pull out the faux flowers. I use these faux hydrangeas throughout summer in baskets and other containers that won’t hold water.

The pink peonies from the garden look perfect with the turquoise glass bottles.

Summer Kitchen Tour

I know it may be no surprise to you, but the blue and yellow color palette flows from the living room to the kitchen.

Did you know that our kitchen island is a vintage dresser? And our contractor found a piece of butcher block from a Dunkin Donuts that was going out of business and installed it on top.

fruit and greenery for a summer kitchen vignette

Keeping the kitchen décor simple is so important in a small kitchen like ours. I want to display EVERYTHING and tend to go a bit overboard. But I’m really trying to work on scaling back and not clutter up the counters.

Summer Flowers, Greenery & Fruit

Greenery, flowers, and fruit are my most favorite summer home décor accessories in the kitchen. Some are fresh…some are faux. I’ll never tell which is which.

Fresh flowers or a dough bowl of fruit will be the main centerpiece on our farm table throughout the summer. This season’s theme is pretty, yet simple.

vase of peonies on farmhouse table

The peonies were cut from the garden, right before the heavy rain. I saved them just in time.

One of my favorite additions to the kitchen was the open shelving we added a couple of years ago. I have heard comments from people about the dust and how dirty the dishes can get.

But…I am all about the decor when it comes to these shelves. I don’t display everyday dishes here, it’s just a place where I can style fun things for each season. I’m crazy that way!

Mix up the Accessories

Vintage accessories and dishes are always my favorite thing to show off in the kitchen. The Ironstone and scale are always here throughout the year, with the seasonal decor mixed in.

Simple things like these colorful straws are perfect for an extra pop of color.

Summer Cottage Garden Tour

June is a really interesting month in my cottage garden. The beautiful spring flowers have just finished blooming, and the true summer flowers have not yet exploded.

calla lilies

There are a few flowers such as foxglove, peonies, delphinium, calla lilies, and saliva that are keeping the garden beautiful this month, but for my garden in zone 8B, you’ll see a lot more greenery than blooms.

greenhouse

And that’s where planting annuals really comes into play. Planting containers this time of year is what really brings the garden to life while waiting for the true summer flowers to bloom.

I’ve even created a container garden with a mix of new and vintage pots and planters.

I hope you’ve enjoyed touring around my summer coastal cottage and garden.

It’s summer perfection! I would never want to leave!

We are looking for a small beach cottage vacation home in NC, (eventually will be retirement home) and your decor is so similar to how I envision our little cottage and garden looking. So much inspiration to pin!

    Happy summer!

Thank you so much, Kathryn. I really appreciate that because I have been really trying to keep from cluttering up my house. It’s really hard for me because I want to show EVERYTHING and I have such a small house. I just can’t. So that means a lot.

I never think to check my local Costco for flowers. It’s usually so crowded I get my stuff and get in the check out line never even seeing that side of the store. I’m definitely checking it out next time. And how fun to have a piece of Dunkin Donut’s in your kitchen! Everything is beautiful and I agree with that unwritten rule. 😉 It just wouldn’t be the same without shells and nautical stuff! You are living the dream my friend, living the dream. Happy summer and always love your tours.
