I absolutely love decorating my home for summer. “Why,” do you ask? Because it’s SO EASY!!! All you need are bright-colored accessories, lots of flowers and greenery, seashells, and an oar or two!

For those of you who have been following along with me for a while, you know that I removed my dark leather couch and relocated my two white slip-covered chairs in front of our living room window. That alone lightened the room up!

We found the most perfect vintage copper-top cabinet a few months ago. It has become the centerpiece for displaying my seasonal décor.

Coastal Summer Décor

When you live in a beach cottage, it’s pretty much an unwritten rule that you decorate for summer with seashells, nautical fishing floats, and sea glass.

I also love vintage books, but when the book covers are shades of blue, I have to have them!

Decorative Pillows and Throws for Summer

I wish I could be a little more unpredictable with my summer color choices, but I’m such a huge fan of navy blue and turquoise. They seem perfect for these next few months. I added a touch of yellow here and there to lighten things up a bit.

Our friend gifted us this pretty “Beach Cottage” pillow when she and her family stayed with us for a few days. I have moved that pillow all over the house and love it!

Flowers & Greenery

I love bringing the outdoors in, and what better way to do that than with flowers and greenery throughout the house? It’s still a bit too early to display cut flowers from the garden but wait until July.

I will have daisies, dahlias, zinnias, cosmos, black-eyed Susans, and so much more from my cut flower garden!

Fresh bouquet of flowers

This was a pretty bouquet that I picked up from Costco.

When I can’t make it to town, a great option is to pull out the faux flowers. I use these faux hydrangeas in baskets and other containers that won’t hold water throughout summer.

The pink peonies from the garden look perfect with the turquoise glass bottles.

It may not surprise you, but the blue and yellow palette flows from the living room to the kitchen.

Did you know that our kitchen island is a vintage dresser? Our contractor found a piece of butcher block from a Dunkin Donuts that was going out of business and installed it on top.

Keeping the kitchen décor simple is important in a small kitchen like ours. I want to display EVERYTHING and tend to go a bit overboard, but I’m really trying to work on scaling back and not cluttering up the counters.

Summer Flowers, Greenery & Fruit

Greenery, flowers, and fruit are my favorite summer home décor accessories in the kitchen. Some are fresh, some are faux. I’ll never tell which is which.

Fresh flowers or a dough bowl of fruit will be the main centerpiece on our farm table throughout the summer. This season’s theme is pretty yet simple.

The peonies were cut from the garden, right before the heavy rain. I saved them just in time.

One of my favorite additions to the kitchen was the open shelving we added a couple of years ago. I have heard comments from people about the dust and how dirty the dishes can get.

But…I am all about the decor when it comes to these shelves. I don’t display everyday dishes here, and it’s just a place where I can style fun things for each season. I’m crazy that way!

Mix up the Accessories

Vintage accessories and dishes are always my favorite thing to show off in the kitchen. The Ironstone and scale are always here throughout the year, with the seasonal decor mixed in.

Simple things like these colorful straws are perfect for an extra pop of color.

birdhouse and cottage garden

June is a really interesting month in my cottage garden. The beautiful spring flowers have just finished blooming, and the true summer flowers have not yet exploded.

calla lilies

A few flowers, such as foxglove, peonies, delphinium, calla lilies, and saliva, are keeping the garden beautiful this month, but in my garden in zone 8B, you’ll see a lot more greenery than blooms.

And that’s where planting annuals comes into play. Planting flower containers this time of year brings the garden to life while waiting for the true summer flowers to bloom.

I’ve even created a container garden with a mix of new and vintage pots and planters.
