Embrace Christmas Charm with These Classic Decor Ideas
Hey friends! I’m so excited to welcome you into my holiday home, where simple, classic decor ideas fill our cottage with cozy Christmas charm. I love decorating this time of year. Do you know that feeling when you start pulling out all your holiday bins? Pure joy, right?
This year’s holiday decor approach looks a bit different from previous years. I’m still recovering from knee surgery, so I only used about half the Christmas decorations I usually do. But here’s the thing – I’ve realized that small statements make your home feel just as warm and festive.
Today, you get an extra treat with the Bloggers Best Christmas Home Tours, hosted by Kelly of The Tattered Pew and Mansa of This is Simplicite. You’ll find links to all the bloggers’ homes at the end of this post. Trust me, you won’t want to miss all of this inspiration.
So grab that cup of hot cocoa, put on your favorite Christmas playlist, and let me show you around!

Christmas Living Room
Step into my cottage-style living room, where I’ve mixed vintage-inspired pieces with natural elements to create a space that feels like a warm hug. Every corner has its own story to tell, from twinkling lights to lush garlands.
Christmas Trees
Living in a 1600-square-foot cottage means getting creative with space. Instead of one showstopper Christmas tree, I’ve scattered several smaller ones throughout the house.
Each has its own personality and style – think dried orange slices, vintage ornaments, and touches of velvet ribbon. Trust me, these little trees pack just as much holiday punch as a big one.
A Whimsical Tree with Hydrangea and Velvet Accents
Between the kitchen and living room stands a beautifully flocked tree that brings just the right amount of whimsy to the space.
I started decorating with neutral pom-pom garlands and added ornaments in a mix of green, icy blue, and copper tones, adding a fresh twist this festive season. Green velvet ribbons added even more color to this tree.
How about the dried hydrangeas in cream and blush? They add such a lovely, organic touch.
I used my chunky HomeGoods basket (the best find ever, by the way) and tossed an old knit throw around the base, making everything feel warm and inviting.
A Radiant Tree with Rustic Elegance
This Christmas tree is the perfect mix of vintage and natural vibes – think sparkling metallic accents, blue ornaments, and warm white string lights.
I had to add some copper-colored velvet ribbon because it needed a pop of color, and then tucked in these gorgeous burlap poinsettias and dried hydrangeas between the ornaments.
We built a little DIY shelf inside the wicker tree collar to make our 7-foot tree look even more impressive.
A Cozy Corner with a Sentimental Flocked Tree
The tree that really holds my heart is this smaller one in the rustic wall basket. It’s decorated with dried orange slices, white ornaments of different sizes, and some vintage gold balls that perfectly catch the light.
The ceramic angel ornament was my daughter’s first Christmas decoration 33 years ago. Every time I look at it, I can’t help but smile, thinking about all our family Christmases.
And because every decoration tells a story, I tucked in this white and gray scarf I picked up in Greece. It was the perfect personal touch!

A Rustic and Elegant Sideboard Display
This vintage copper top sideboard is perfect for displaying my seasonal decor.
The centerpiece is this gorgeous faux Norfolk pine wreath I hung in front of my wooden-framed mirror. It creates a beautiful reflection of all the holiday sparkle in the room. And I have to give credit where it’s due – my husband helped hang fairy lights on this amazing rustic branch.
To build the display, I started with a cozy plaid winter scarf as the base, then added different heights with a hammered metal cone tree and a wooden tree for contrast.
The whole design feels collected and curated, especially with this vintage silver bowl filled with pinecones, fresh greenery, and a mix of textured ornaments. A touch of Norfolk pine garland ties everything together perfectly.
Oversized silver bells and a vintage candle holder with cream candles finish off this decor display.
A Rustic Reindeer Wreath Display
This year, my sweet woven reindeer head is nested inside a cream-colored wreath of wood flowers. They’re hanging on one of my favorite pieces, a weathered vintage window frame.
I plan to add a little scarf to our friend (I’m calling him Rudolph!) when I get a chance – to give him that extra festive touch!
A Cozy Christmas Window Scene
This area blends vintage finds and natural elements behind the tufted caramel leather sofa. I’ve mixed my vintage finds and natural elements, making it the perfect spot to relax and soak in the season’s magic.
A faux Norfolk pine garland is draped across the window.
Last month, I found the weathered milk bucket in Port Townsend and knew it would be perfect on the table behind the couch, filled with faux-flocked branches. A small vintage suitcase and bottlebrush trees fill the other side of the table.
A Festive Coffee Table Centerpiece
The star of the show is this oversized vintage rustic wooden dough bowl, which I use every year to display ornaments.
Do you have oversized ornaments that just won’t fit on the tree? Try displaying them in bowls with fresh greenery and pinecones. They make such beautiful centerpieces.
Here’s a little decorator’s secret: I fill the bottom with whatever I have around (bubble wrap, paper bags, old towels—seriously, anything works) to give it some height without using too many ornaments. Then, I layer in a mix of faux and fresh evergreen branches, topped with these vintage-inspired mercury glass ornaments in silver and teal.
The rest of the coffee table displays a crisp white poinsettia, some brass candlesticks with cream candles, and these sweet little white trees decorated with silver baubles.
Cozy Plaid Throw Pillows and Blankets
To finish off the cozy vibes in the room, I’ve added just a couple of holiday-themed throw pillows mixed with some neutral ones on the couch. Every seating area needs a chunky knit throw blanket, too.
You don’t need to go overboard – sometimes, just one or two festive pillows mixed with cozy blankets are all you need to create that warm, welcoming holiday feeling we all love.
Kitchen
My cottage kitchen becomes even more special during the holidays – it’s where all the magic happens! While I love decorating, I’ve kept things simple this year, so there’s still plenty of room for all our holiday baking adventures and family cooking sessions.
The Island
The butcher block island sees plenty of action this time of year. Did you know that this piece was a vintage dresser we found on Craigslist? Our contractor found the butcher block at a Dunkin Donuts that was going out of business.
One of my favorite features in our cottage kitchen is the collection of vintage copper pots hanging from the ceiling pot rack. There’s something extra magical about them during the holidays.
A Festive Christmas Tree
From this spot, you can see how everything flows together – my cozy kitchen, with all its copper charm, flows right into that magical Christmas tree. The kitchen has this wonderfully warm feel, thanks to the copper pieces catching the light and the open shelves dressed up with holiday touches.
That Christmas tree really steals the show! I placed it right where the kitchen opens up, and it ties everything together perfectly. I had so much fun decorating it with dried hydrangeas from my garden, mixing in blue and green ornaments, and adding these beautiful green velvet ribbons. It all came together in this natural but elegant way that I absolutely love.
Festive Open Shelving with Vintage Charm
My open shelves have become my favorite spot to decorate for the holidays. I’ve mixed our everyday kitchen must-haves with festive touches to create this cozy, vintage-inspired look. The warm wooden shelves make such a perfect backdrop for everything.
A mix of copper accessories, greenery, and brushed trees keeps this space fresh and classic.
I’m so sad that I didn’t buy my Santa mugs until after I took these pictures. But in my opinion, every Christmas kitchen should have some Sant mugs, whether vintage or reproductions.
I love vintage decor in the kitchen! My scale, white ironstone, an old tin, and a glass cloche blend perfectly for the most charming holiday display.
The counter space underneath is all about practicality with a festive twist. A wicker basket holds wooden rolling pins with green handles (so charming!), while another keeps my collection of cutting boards tidy but accessible.
A vintage copper pot holds a white poinsettia, and a glass jar of flour and a copper scoop complete this area.
My “Happy Holidays” rustic sign has had many homes over the holidays, but I decided to hang it above the open shelving this Christmas.
A Cozy Christmas Dining Nook
Our dining nook is the perfect cozy corner, and it just feels even more special this time of year, whether I’m having my morning coffee or hosting a holiday meal.
I draped two cozy green, blue, and cream plaid throws over the chairs and hung garland over the windows.
SHOP Italian Cotton Plaid Throw from Quince ( this color combo is sold out).
The table setup is pretty simple, but that’s what I love about it. I started with a neutral runner, then added a faux Norfolk pine tree in a white ceramic container, bright red pomegranates, green jadeite plates, and holiday napkins.
The red pomegranates give it that classic Christmas feeling while keeping everything natural and not too fussy.
This aqua-colored cabinet in the corner is one of my favorite pieces in our cottage. It has a wonderful vintage feel, and I’ve had fun styling it with a wicker basket, a stack of dishes, and a rustic wreath made of bells.
The window seat has the coziest pillows, some in holiday patterns. It’s become everyone’s favorite spot to curl up and watch the winter weather outside.
Christmas Charm and Classic Decor Final Thoughts
Decorating for Christmas isn’t about perfection, it’s about creating a space that feels joyful and cozy for you and the people you love. Whether sipping hot cocoa in your festive kitchen or relaxing by the glow of your Christmas tree, those little moments truly make the season magical.

Do you have a link for the 3 scalloped edge bowls sitting on the turquoise hutch? I went through your LTK but couldn’t find them.
Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving & Merry Christmas
Hi Shannon!
Thank you so much for your kind words. As for the bowls, I purchased them as individual bowls for $25. at a local store. But I just did some hunting online and found a set of 6 (3 colors) at Walmart for $81.25 which if you break that down it’s a much better price. Here is the link: https://rstyle.me/+0f32NFwrKaiSwiXawnBotA
You can always split them up and give them as gifts or get a friend to split it with you too. Good luck!
Kim, your home is just magical! I love the ideas of all of the little trees bringing the magical glow of Christmas throughout your home!
Thank you so much Chloe! That is so sweet of you. Now I just need to learn how to create a lovely seasonal mantel like you!
I’m obsessed with your holiday color palette this year Kim…it is gorgeous!! And now I’m going to be on the lookout for a huge Homegoods basket to put under my smaller tree for next year. That trick is genius. Happy Holidays my friend!
Thank you Kate! I absolutely love the basket assortment at HomeGoods and they are priced very reasonably. I know you will find the perfect basket for your tree next year! Happy Holidays!
