Saltwater Sounds Weekly: A Week to Celebrate

Welcome to Saltwater Sounds, a collection of ideas, tips, and inspiration. This is where I share everything happening in the world of Shiplap and Shells, what’s to come, and the inspiration I’ve found from other bloggers around the web.

This and That…

We had the best time this weekend!

What better way to celebrate our upcoming anniversary and my birthday than to spend some time shopping for vintage goodies?

Vintage Market Days in Couer d’Alene was so much fun, with music, food, and of course, the best vintage shopping!

I met my IG friend, Deanna, of 4 years there.

There were over 100 vendor booths.

I loved this booth pictured above. Do you see those leaded glass pieces? They were priced at $58.00 each and we got the three for $58.00. I’m going to make them into mini transom windows.

And of course, there was a lot of vintage Pyrex.

What was really special about taking the 6-hour road trip to Couer d’Alene and Hayden was to see the place I lived between 5th and 8th grade. I had not been back in 44 years.

I knew it would be different but I was truly blown away. I remember as a kid in the seventies having to make the “long trek” to Spokane for any kind of shopping.

One of my favorite things to do when I was a kid was to ride my bike to “Lil Bear” to have a cherry Coke. The other fun summer adventure was to go to Honeysuckle Beach at Hayden Lake. They’ve made some amazing changes to the swimming area.

I have so many memories of waterskiing, snowmobiling down our street, and just being a kid.

We stayed in Spokane at a hotel on the Spokane River.

This view…

and this view were just steps from our hotel and the Spokane Riverfront Park.

This is the Spokane Pavilion. It’s incredibly beautiful.

When I lived here as a kid, the pavilion was covered in a large white canvas so it was a wonderful surprice to see this change.

They have light shows every weekend and it’s spectacular.

Here’s the historical clock tower.

This was such an enchanting evening. It brought back a lot of memories but I made new ones with my husband with me this time.

Around Our Beach Cottage

Look at this fabulous table I got from my friend last week. I’ve always wanted a table like this to use when I had more guests to entertain.

So here’s my question, what would you do to update it? Would this be the piece I try the “Easyoff Method” on?

I’m loving my hydrangeas right now.

Nordstrom – My History

Here’s a fun fact about me and Nordstrom.

My first job was at Bellevue Square Nordstrom when I was 17 years old. I started on the first day of the Anniversary Sale as a stock person in the children’s department. It was quite the initiation back in the day when there were no online sales. And there was only one start day for the sale.

I eventually moved up to a buyer for BP (women’s junior sportswear) for the Alaska region and then the LA region. It was a dream job! I was in my 20s and the NY buying trips were so incredible for such a young adult to experience.

I’ve worked The Norstrom Anniversary sale 12 times. Let’s just say that being a customer is a lot more fun!

Here are some of my favorite’s from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale right now:

Ok, so I have a thing for kimonos this summer. I love this one because it’s heavier weight and I can wear it into the fall. The quality is amazing. Use code SHIPLAPANDSHELLS for 15% off your order.

These metal wall sconces, maybe for the boat?

My beautiful summer outdoor collection.

I will always have Liquid Fence and Sluggo on my favorites list. I don’t know what I would do without them.

This portable countertop ice maker has come in handy this summer both at home and on the boat.
