Saltwater Sounds Weekly Wrap Up

  • Email

Welcome to Saltwater Sounds, a collection of ideas, tips, and inspiration. This is where I wrap up all that’s been going on in the world of Shiplap and Shells, what’s to come and the inspiration I’ve discovered from other bloggers around the web.

view of the Puget Sound

This and That…

This was Sunday morning’s view. The sun is out today and frost covered the lawn.

As you can see, I still need to take down the garland off of the white picket fence from the holidays. Today might be the day!

This is a wonderful break from the excessive rain and wind we’ve been experiencing this last week. You have no idea how much I want spring to be here.

Trying to Embrace January

January is a month like no other.

For me, it’s a month of transition and crazy weather with little excitement to be had.

Rather than complaining about not being able to spend much time outside these days and feeling like we may need to build an ark with all this rain, I’m trying something different this year.

I’m taking this time to really get organized and plan out my year. And I’m really getting excited about the idea of getting my “you know what” together this year.

How do you feel about January?

supplies to plan the garden

Getting Back Into Garden Mode

I just ordered my flower seeds for 2022 and finalizing my cut flower plan. I’m taking an inventory of my supplies and ordering anything that I need NOW so I can get everything in time for that first week of February when I start sowing my snapdragon and sweet pea seeds.

It’s hard to believe that I’m already back into gardening mode after just one month of respite. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Have you thought about your garden already?

geraniums in greenhouse

My Geranium Update

My geraniums that are overwintering in the greenhouse are still looking amazing!

I’m going to be starting new geranium plants this week. This is one of my favorite things to do.

Our Boat Update

Our boat galley is basically torn up at the moment.

We’ve taken out all the appliances and cut down the bar so it will be more open to the rest of the salon. My husband and I will be shopping for quartz in Seattle tomorrow for the countertop.

I agree with you, I can’t wait for spring! Are you sowing the sweet peas and snapdragons in your green house or directly on the ground. I was tempted to go directly on the ground but I get no sun at all in my garden this time of year. Love following your boat updates, so much fun!

I start my sweet pea and snapdragon peas in the greenhouse first. They always seem to do better that way.

You have a fabulous garden. I am inspired now to get seeds of some of your favorite flowers but when I looked online at your source for seeds most were sold out. I will try to find a good seed source at my local nursery…love so many that you recommended. By the way, here on the coast below Santa Barbara, I am still picking the yellow pear tomatoes in my garden on the plant that is taking over my roses, and many avocados falling from my big 22 year old tree. I love to share them with neighbors, my librarians, my postal workers, and even passers by.

Thank you so much for the kind words. Floret Flowers does sell out quickly but Renee’s Garden Seeds and Johnny’s Selected Seeds are also good seed sources. I’d love to be able to grow avocados. How awesome is that! How nice that you share your harvest with them.

I generally like January because it is cooler here in Florida. Not at all like the rest of the country! I can’t say I felt the same way when I lived in Cleveland! I am enjoying the updates on your boat progress! Having been sailors for about 10 years or so, I have a fondness for life on the water! Hugs!

Florida sounds like a perfect retreat from the rest of the country’s tough winter weather. You’ll have to go visit me so we can take you on the boat.
